Zn-doped mesoporous hydroxyapatites and their antimicrobial properties

Recently, zinc-based materials have gained immense attention as antimicrobial agents. In this study, zinc-doped mesoporous hydroxyapatites (HAps) with various Zn contents were prepared by co-precipitation using a phosphoprotein the porous template. The use of template resulted in formation HAps (mHAps) large pores and specific surface area (182 m2 g-1), indicated nitrogen adsorption/desorption measurements. was confirmed analytical techniques such X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, photoelectron spectroscopy. biomaterials study used agents against gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) gram-negative (Escherichia coli) bacteria. Zn2%-mHAp sample showed maximum bacterial inhibitory concentrations 50 ± 5% 77 for Gram-positive Gram-negative bacteria, respectively. antibacterial activity mHAp samples depended strongly on their Zn2+ content. Thus, biotemplate ions is an efficient approach novel HAp-based promising properties. This synthesis will pave new pathway functionalization other different biomedical applications.
